Maserati pioneered the Grand touring concept – the idea of fitting a race engine into a luxury coupe – in the 1947 A6 1500 GT Pininfarina. Now, the story continues with the 2018 GranTurismo Sport: the definitive, modern grand touring four-door.

For 2018, the Maserati GranTurismo is available in two trim levels: Sport and MC. Although it may seem counterintuitive, the Sport model is more luxurious (and less track-oriented) of the two.

Model year changes for the Sport model include an updated infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a standard rearview camera. A new Harman Kardon sound system is also available.

The Maserati GranTurismo Sport is the penmanship of none other than the famous Pininfarina design house. As such, the luxury sports car exudes a level of style unlike anything else on the road. The bodylines are that of a four-door coupé – the ultimate expression of the Maserati namesake. An aggressive sculpted front grille and iconic triple side vents add to the allure.
Inside, the four-passenger cabin boasts the same level of elegance. Fine leather is found throughout, along with hand-stitched details and premium trim materials. Convenience abounds as well in the form of an electric-assist trunk and dual-zone climate control

Any car sporting the Maserati nameplate is expected to have a world-class engine under the hood. The GranTurismo doesn’t disappoint; it’s propelled by a Ferrari-built 4.7L V8 (454 hp and 384 lb.-ft.) All that power routes through a 6-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. A limited slip differential helps get torque to the pavement.

Further capability comes from selectable drive modes – Auto-Normal, Auto-Sport, Manual-Normal, Manual-Sport and I.C.E. (Increased Control & Efficiency) – and a double wishbone suspension. Stopping ability comes courtesy of Brembo brakes paired with 20-inch wheels.

When it comes to numbers, Maserati asserts the GranTurismo can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.8 seconds. Top speed is an impressive 186 mph.

We’re living in the digital age; even artisan cars, like the Maserati GranTurismo Sport, are assumed to have cutting-edge technology. And the grand tourer exceeds expectations with features like the Maserati Touch Control Plus (MTC+) touchscreen display with rotary control. Of course, the system has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Also onboard the Sport, you’ll find a 10-speaker Harman Kardon Premium Audio System.

Everyone remains protected inside the GranTurismo Sport. The car offers innovative safety features such as the Maserati Stability Program, which monitors driving status to restore stability within milliseconds, and a standard rearview camera. Plus, there are driver assistance functions like Advanced Brake Assist and Adaptive Lighting Control. More traditional safety features, such as multiple airbags, are included as well.
